Notice of Potential Eligibility for Mixed Earner Unemployment Compensation (MEUC) Benefits

The EDD identified your claim as potentially eligible for Mixed Earner Unemployment Compensation (MEUC) benefits.

What Is the MEUC Program? The Mixed Earner Unemployment Compensation (MEUC) program pays an additional $100 per week in supplemental unemployment benefits to claimants who earned self-employment income in the year prior to their claim, apply for the program, and meet all MEUC eligibility requirements under federal law.

MEUC payments are retroactive to December  27, 2020, and claimants can receive up to a total of 36 weeks of payments.

Who Is Eligible for the MEUC Program? To receive MEUC benefits, you must:

  • Be eligible for benefits on a regular Unemployment Insurance (UI) claim, Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC), or Federal-State Extended Duration (FED-ED) extension.
    • Claimants collecting Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) or Training Extension (TE) benefits are not eligible for the MEUC program.
  • Be eligible to receive at least ‎$1 in unemployment benefits, or have had your unemployment benefits applied to your overpayment, between December 27, 2020, and September 6, 2021.
  • Apply for the MEUC program and provide documents that prove yourBlank linenet income (after all taxes and deductions) from self-employment was at least $5,000.

How Do I Apply for the MEUC Program? To apply for the MEUC program:

  • Complete and submit the enclosed application.

If you are determined eligible to receive MEUC benefits, you must continue to submit your weekly certifications. The additional $100 will be added to each eligible week. If you already received benefits for any of these weeks, the $100 MEUC payment will be automatically issued as an additional payment for each week you received benefit week endings beginning January 2, 2021 and ending September 6, 2021

Is This Taxable Income? MEUC benefits are considered taxable income and are subject to child support deductions. MEUC benefits may affect eligibility for other programs such as Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)
