The Unemployment Insurance (UI) Work Sharing Program

The Employment Development Department provides a variety of support services to people who have lost their jobs or have had their hours reduced due to the impacts of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) in California. Support services include the Work Sharing Program, which allows employers to seek an alternative to layoffs by retaining their trained employees through a reduction of their hours and wages; reductions that can be partially offset with Unemployment Insurance benefits. Workers of employers who are approved to participate in the Work Sharing Program receive the percentage of their weekly UI benefit amount based on the percentage of hours and wages reduced, not to exceed 60 percent.

Your employer has initiated the Work Sharing Program process. The publication, A Guide to Unemployment Insurance Benefits for Work Sharing Participants (DE 1275WS), explains the program claims process, how to certify for benefits, and participant rights and responsibilities. Access and read this publication in its entirety by using the QR code, or visiting edd.ca.gov and entering DE 1275WS in the search box.
Get paid faster! Follow the directions in the DE 1275WS to correctly fill out your Initial Claim and Payment Certification (DE 4511WS) and Work Sharing Certification (DE 4581WS) provided to you by your employer.
Have a question? Refer to the Questions and Answers (Q & A) about the Work Sharing Program located on pages ‎3-5 of the DE 1275WS.
