The Employment Development Department provides a variety of support services to people who have lost their jobs or have had their hours reduced due to the impacts of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) in California. Support services include the Work Sharing Program, which allows employers to seek an alternative to layoffs by retaining their trained employees through a reduction of their hours and wages; reductions that can be partially offset with Unemployment Insurance benefits. Workers of employers who are approved to participate in the Work Sharing Program receive the percentage of their weekly UI benefit amount based on the percentage of hours and wages reduced, not to exceed 60 percent.
