Notice of Eligibility to Remain on Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) Extension

You qualify for a new federal program that continues paying benefits on your current Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) extension.

The regular Unemployment Insurance (UI) claim you recently qualified for will be on hold until you collect all available PEUC benefits, or until the PEUC extension ends on September ‎06, 2021, whichever comes first.

What is the new program?

Recent federal legislation enacted the Deferred New Claim Payment (DNCP) program, which allows the EDD to continue paying benefits on your PEUC extension, instead of your regular UI claim, so you can receive a higher benefit amount. The DNCP applies when the weekly benefit amount (WBA) on your PEUC extension is at least ‎$25 more than the weekly benefit amount (WBA) on your new regular UI claim.

How does this new program affect me?

You will continue receiving your PEUC extension benefits as long as you keep certifying for benefits every two weeks. There is no need to contact the EDD.

Why did I have to apply for a new regular unemployment claim when there was still a balance on my PEUC?

The EDD is required to review your wage information one year after the start of your initial UI claim. This process confirms your eligibility for regular UI benefits. Because you are eligible and meet the program criteria listed below, the EDD will continue paying your benefits on the PEUC extension.

Why am I eligible to participate in this program?

You meet all the federally mandated DNCP criteria:
  • The end date of the benefit year of your initial regular UI claim is after December 27, 2020.
  • You have a PEUC extension filed on your initial regular UI claim.
  • The weekly benefit amount (WBA) of your PEUC extension is at least ‎$25 more than the weekly benefit amount (WBA) of your new regular UI claim.
  • You did not earn enough wages in another state to be eligible for a new UI claim in that state before your initial regular UI claim ended in California.

What happens to my new regular unemployment claim?

Your new regular UI claim will remain open until mm/dd/yyyy. However, you will not be paid regular UI benefits for the same weeks you are paid PEUC benefits.

Once you have collected all available benefits on your PEUC extension, and if you are still unemployed and eligible, the EDD will automatically start paying benefits on your new regular UI claim. There is no need to contact the EDD.

Refer to your Notice of Unemployment Insurance (UI) Award (DE 429Z) for additional information about your new regular UI claim.

Where can I find more information about this program?
