This notice is to inform you that the Federal Government has approved an extension of Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits called Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) effective March 29, 2020 through December 31, 2020. You may be eligible for this extension made available under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act of 2020 (Public Law No. 116-136). If eligible, a PEUC extension provides an additional 13 weeks of UI benefits.
Your prior UI claim that began on or after July 8, 2018 is now expired. If you are unemployed or partially unemployed now, file a new regular UI claim through UI Online℠ or contact us by phone at the numbers listed on this form. The EDD anticipates high call volumes so you are encouraged to apply online for the fastest processing possible.
If the EDD determines you do not have enough wages earned since your last claim to qualify for a new claim, the EDD will send you a Notice of Unemployment Insurance Award (DE 429Z) indicating that you do not monetarily qualify for a regular UI claim. The EDD will then automatically determine eligibility for a PEUC and file that extension on your prior regular UI claim that is now expired. No additional action will be required on your part to file the PEUC extension. You will receive a separate notice informing you of your PEUC eligibility and you will then have to complete the usual bi-weekly certification to determine your ongoing eligibility for payments.
NOTE: You must apply for a new regular UI claim before we can determine your eligibility for the PEUC extension claim.
