EDD Employment Development Department State of California Logo

Claimants who make false statements or withhold information are subject to penalties, including being denied UI benefits, and having to pay back any amount that they were not entitled to receive with a 30 percent monetary penalty.

Avoid these consequences by properly reporting your work and wages, in the week that you work, when submitting your certifications for continuing benefits using UI Onlineā„  or by mail. DO NOT WAIT until you receive your first paycheck to report your earnings.
